Second-degree murder charges have been filed against the great-grandmother of a 7-month-old Georgia girl who died this week after a dog attack.

The attack also seriously hurt Migdelia Guadalupe, 56. According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, she was discharged from the hospital and arrested.

Officials said Serenity Garnett was in Guadalupe’s care at the time. Deputies arrived at the residence around 12:15 p.m. local time Tuesday to find the great-grandmother and the girl injured and also being treated by emergency workers.

When deputies showed up, the child was not breathing. They were both taken to the hospital, where the child died from her injuries, according to WRDW.

Guadalupe was also charged with methamphetamine possession and second-degree murder.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement that “there are additional details that led to these charges that will not be released at this time.”

Guadalupe is being held without bond.

Guadalupe was renting the house, and she was the only one living there, according to authorities. According to deputies, the dog belongs to Donna Marie Mills, 58, who shares ownership of the house with her brother, Danny Mills, 55.
