Jeremy Ingram, 31, is being held in the Fulton County Jail on a murder charge in connection with the death of his 96-year-old grandmother Sara Barnett.

South Fulton Police and a murder suspect engaged in a seven-hour standoff Wednesday evening and persisted into Thursday morning. The suspect stated that he slept through the standoff, according to arrest warrants.

Jeremy Ingram, 31, was eventually arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his grandmother, Sara Barnett, 96. According to arrest warrants, relatives reported seeing Ingram “walked into the family room with a firearm in his hand, approached Barnett who was sitting in the recliner, and shot her.”

Additionally, the documents state that he admitted to shooting her “after which, he went to his bedroom and went to sleep in his closet.

Ingram claims that he slept through the South Metro SWAT Team dispersing tear gas into the residence and was awakened by officers pulling him out of the closet.”

South Fulton Police have not disclosed how they removed Ingram from the residence or confirmed a motive for the shooting, but in a Facebook post, the dept stated that he was detained and suffered only “minor injuries.”

Additionally, the warrants allege that Ingram was read his Miranda rights but waived his right to counsel. He is being held in the Fulton County jail and is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on Friday morning.
