On Sunday afternoon, a horrific scene unfolded at a Miami-Dade Jewish Community Center. According to relatives, a husband shot and killed a young mother.
According to them, it occurred in front of the victim’s small child while they were taking swimming classes.
Police spent hours investigating the fatal shooting at the North Miami JCC. Shandell Harris, 30, was identified as the victim by relatives.
“She didn’t deserve to die like this, she didn’t deserve nothing,” the victim’s cousin, Aaron Batten, stated. “She was a great woman.”
Batten stated that Harris was at the JCC with her daughter for swimming classes when her husband tracked them down and murdered her. “He followed her, chased her down and shot her like an animal,” Batten explained.
According to a close relative, Harris was stabbed by the accused person on Saturday but did not report it to authorities. “Investigators found out today there was some sort of domestic incidents recently,” said Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department.
The JCC issued a statement in response to the incident, which included the following:
“Earlier today, there was a shooting at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center with one fatality. Miami-Dade Police have confirmed it is being investigated as a domestic issue. The suspected gunman has been arrested, and police have indicated there is no known threat to the Jewish community. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family.”
According to police, the center will return to normal operations on Monday.
Because the center is secured at the entrance, it was unclear how the suspect gained access while armed. The suspect’s identity has not been revealed at this time.
