Hospital Worker Dies After Woman Strikes Him in Groin Area

According to the Sumter Police Department, a hospital worker died after being injured by a woman who was allegedly attempting to flee the hospital during a court-ordered visit.

Officers say Imani Cox, 27, was at Prisma Health Tuomey for a court-ordered assessment on May 27. Cox was attempting to leave the building when security attempted to stop her, according to authorities.

According to police, she became “aggressive and began fighting with employees.” She allegedly struck at least 2 employees, including mental health technician Kevin Robinson, who was struck in the groin.

According to police, Robinson became ill and became non – responsive. Robinson died a few days later. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine Robinson’s cause of death.

Cox was taken to a hospital in the Columbia area and charged with second-degree assault and battery after her treatment.
