Deshaun Watson is being investigated by the police, in the ongoing saga in a series of sexual harassment charges made against him in recent weeks.
A criminal complaint has been lodged against the Texans quarterback, according to the Houston Police Department.
“Today, a complainant filed a report with the Houston Police Department concerning Deshaun Watson,” the police said in a statement on social media. “As with any allegation, the Houston Police Department is now conducting an investigation and will not comment further during the investigation process.”
Although it is unclear what Watson is being prosecuted for or who filed the report, the 25-year-old quarterback is facing 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault from massage therapists.
It’s uncertain if the report is from a new complainant, but it is the first criminal complaint against Watson, which Watson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said he and his client welcome.
“We welcome this long overdue development,” Hardin said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle. “Now, we will learn the identity of at least one accuser. We will fully cooperate with the Houston Police Department.”
