A United Airlines employee was seen trading blows with a rowdy passenger at Newark Airport, resulting in a disturbing brawl that left the employee covered in blood.
The video surfaced on social networking sites on Sunday morning after horrified bystanders witnessed the pair fighting in front of the bag drop counter.
The altercation began when the passenger used a wheelchair to carry his luggage, ostensibly to avoid having to pay the New Jersey airport’s fee for luggage carts.
When the United employee confronted him about it, the two began to fight.
The United employee landed one punch before being knocked to the ground and flung behind the check-in desk and onto the baggage carousel.
He staggered to his feet and stumbled toward the passenger, who exclaimed, “He wants more?”
Other airline employees decided to intervene, and the passenger was later removed from the airport by law enforcement.
United declined to comment on whether the employee has been disciplined for his role in the altercation.
A spokesman for United Airlines issued the following statement: ‘United Airlines does not tolerate violence of any kind at our airports or on board our planes and we are working with local authorities to further investigate this matter.’
The airport’s incident-handling Port Authority Police have not made a comment on the incident or whether either man was charged.
Since being shared online to Twitter yesterday morning, the video has been viewed over 11 million times.
