Denzel Washington shared some word of encouragement with fellow actor Will Smith in the aftermath of Smith’s slapping altercation with funnyman Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremony.

Smith slapped Rock after the tv presenter made a “G.I. Jane” joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has a bald head due to alopecia. Rock was making a reference to the 1997 film in which Demi Moore portrayed a Navy member with a shaved head.

During the commercial break, Washington appeared to console Will and Jada, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s columnist Scott Feinberg’s Twitter page.

“Denzel said to me a few minutes ago, ‘At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you,’” Will said.
