It Really Be Your Own People: Tennessee Woman Accused of Stealing Her Mother's Car and Selling it for $500

A woman was apprehended Thursday afternoon in Covington on suspicion of stealing her mother’s car and selling it for $500.

The Covington Police Department stated that on March 6, 2022, they started investigating the stealing of a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The complainant told investigators she was out walking her dog at the time, and when she came back to her Cottonwood Place residence, her car was gone. According to police, there was no forced entry into the house and the keys were nowhere to be seen.

On April 24, Memphis Police stopped a reported stolen Monte Carlo traveling on N. McLean from Poplar Avenue. The driver was taken into custody and charged.

The case was then investigated jointly by MPD and Covington Police.

The motorist eventually informed Covington Police that her boyfriend purchased the car for $500 from a woman whose name she did not know.

Investigators discovered that the victim’s daughter, Jessica Beloate, was the one who sold the car to the driver.

Beloate, who was residing in Drummonds, Tennessee at the moment of the theft, was arrested and taken to the Covington Police Department for questioning. Although she denied involvement in the vehicle theft, key evidence led to her arrest.

Beloate has been charged with theft of over $1,000 in property and criminal simulation. She is still being held on a $5,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.
