An accused double murderer from Alaska was caught Wednesday in Staten Island after Homeland Security Investigations and the New York Police Department assisted in tracking his cross-country adventure to a home in the borough, according to NBC4.
Jalonni Blackshear, 39, has been identified as a possible suspect in the murders of Raechyl Blackshear, 35, and their 14-year-old daughter, Jayla, who were found dead on Friday in their Anchorage residence. Since that time, he had been on the run.
According to police officials, the teen approached authorities on March 30 to report being raped by her father. Her mother rushed her to the doctor for forensic testing, and police later obtained a DNA sample from Jalonni Blackshear as part of their investigation.
Blackshear quit his job as a corrections officer the day after giving the DNA sample, and he and Raechyl and Jayla vanished, according to the criminal complaint.
On April 13, DNA samples for Jalonni Blackshear were found to be a match. According to the criminal complaint, the mom and daughter were brutally murdered in their Anchorage home 2 days later.
Jalonni Blackshear was believed to have fled to the East Coast according to local cops in Anchorage, who enlisted the help of HSI agents and the NYPD in the manhunt. They tracked him down to a residence on Staten Island using his cellphone and were seen searching a Harold Street residence on Wednesday before taking Blackshear away.
According to law enforcement officials, he was charged with sex assault of a minor and is suspected of being responsible for the shotgun murders of the mom and daughter. He was ordered held without bail pending his arraignment on the charges in Alaska.
