Authorities said a Jamaican cop was arrested after she was apprehended at a Florida airport with cocaine she had brought into the country concealed inside her body.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Shelian Cherine Allen, 42, arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on February 3 on a flight from Montego Bay.
According to the release, Allen, a Jamaican resident and law enforcement officer with the Jamaica Constabulary Force for the last 18 years, was thoroughly checked upon her arrival by US Customs and Border Protection.
Allen had a package of cocaine in her vagina, packages of cocaine in both bra cups, and 90 pellets of packed cocaine in her belly that she’d consumed.
The pellets were extracted from Allen when he was brought to a local hospital.
According to the press release, Allen had around 1,350 grams of cocaine on or inside her body when she came into the United States.
Allen was charged with importing 500 grams or more of cocaine and possessing 500 grams or more of cocaine with the intent to distribute it.
She faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison if convicted on each charge.
