Judge Sentences Ghislaine Maxwell to 20 Years in Prison

Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for selecting and grooming teen girls to be sexually assaulted by Jeffrey Epstein.

Maxwell, a British socialite, was sentenced for her “instrumental role in the horrific sexual abuse of multiple young teenage girls.”

She was also sentenced to 5 years of supervised release after being released from prison, as well as a $750,000 fine.

Before being sentenced, Maxwell spoke to the court for the first time, saying she was “sorry for the pain you have experienced.”

“I also want to acknowledge that I have been convicted of assisting Jeffrey Epstein in his crimes,” she said. “It is the greatest regret of my life that I ever met Jeffrey Epstein.”

However, U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan for the Southern District of New York stated that Maxwell “directly and repeatedly, and over the course of many years, was involved in a horrific scheme.”
