When a kindergartner brought a bottle of ready-to-drink Jose Cuervo margaritas to Grand River Academy Livonia, multiple students drank from it, parents were outraged.

One of those parents is Alexis Smith. Her kindergartener said she had 4 or 5 sips of the mixed tequila drink from a Dixie cup. When Smith and another mother, Dominique Zanders, found out what had happened, they were taken aback.

“She felt woozy, a little dizzy,” Zanders said.

During snack time, their daughters each were given what they assumed was juice. They had been, in fact, sipping Jose Cuervo margarita mix brought by a fellow kindergartner at snack time.

“The girl poured it in her cup and she drank it and the girl ended up telling her what it is, and she went and told the teacher there is liquor in this cup, and the teacher gave her a funny face,” Zanders said.

The other little girl had carried the single-serve, pre-mixed drink in her backpack to school.

The parents are clearly upset about what happened, but they are not upset with the child. They’re directing their rage at Grand River Academy officials. They’re baffled as to how it happened and how it could have been avoided.

However, Smith and Zanders agree that the kindergartner’s parents should be punished.

The school stated that they contacted poison control for advice on the next steps.

The school immediately contacted the parents to inform them that all of their children were healthy and that the student would be disciplined if necessary.
