A mother and her son were killed in a stabbing that occurred overnight in the 2000 block of Hubert Avenue in North Memphis on Saturday, according to police.

When officers arrived around 12:40 a.m., they discovered five people who had been stabbed, including a child. MPD initially stated that four people were involved, but the total number was later increased to five.

On the scene, one person was declared dead. The child was transported to Le Bonheur Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to relatives and investigators, the two victims who died were Pamela Isabell, 37, and her seven-year-old son AJ.

The other three victims, including a nine-year-old juvenile, were taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to MPD.

Two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder have been filed against Leaudre Isabell, 23.

“How in the (expletive) you stab all those people like that,” one family member said. “And then you wait until they go to sleep?” Pamela’s brother, according to Memphis police, is Leaudre. The attack’s motive is still being investigated.

“One of the people that’s in the hospital said he did it,” a family member said. “They said my family members are dead. He did it.”

According to family members, Leaudre has struggled with mental health issues.

He just got a problem. He just got a problem,” a family member said. “Everybody tried to help him. Everybody in the family tried to help taking him back and forth to work. Nope, don’t have to pay no rent.

Leaudre has not been assigned a bond. On April 25, he is scheduled to appear in court.
