Charges Dropped Against Man Accused of Molesting Toddlers

Felony charges against a North Carolina man who was attacked and threatened with a pistol after a younger man caught him in a bedroom with the younger man’s two young children.

On Oct. 28, Mark Anthony Stanley, 61, of Burlington, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and was granted a suspended sentence in Spotsylvania Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Deputies responding to a 911 call on Dec. 29, 2019, found a bludgeoned Stanley and an enraged father. Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Liz Scott said the deputies had saved the suspect from further harm. She said that her father got a gun and that the deputies might have saved Stanley’s life.

Stanley was held in jail for almost two months before being released on bond. Prosecutor Amanda Sweeney says she soon discovered that Stanley’s case was not what she was initially made to believe.
