The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified a man detained on Saturday night for allegedly shooting a handgun inside an uptown Charlotte comedy club.
Omar James McCombs, 36, was charged with nine charges in connection with the incident, according to police.
Although no one was injured, the concert at The Comedy Zone in the AvidXchange Music Factory, where comedian Craig Robinson was scheduled to appear, was canceled.
Employees told Channel 9 reporter Tina Terry that a guy entered the club brandishing a pistol and demanding that everyone leave. Employees said that it happened at 9:10 p.m.
There were perhaps 50 customers inside, and many more outside. Employees stated they began fleeing out the door. McCombs reportedly discharged the pistol inside after everyone was evacuated, according to CMPD.
When officers arrived, they discovered multiple victims who said McCombs brandished a pistol at them and threatened to hurt them.
Officers were able to immediately apprehend McCombs and transport him to the CMPD headquarters.
McCombs was charged with five counts of assault with a gun, one count of firing a firearm within an enclosure to induce fear, and one count of felon in possession of a handgun. According to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office arrest records, his bond total is $90,000.
