Austin Cop Charged With Murder in Michael Ramos Shooting

In the shooting death of Mike Ramos last year, a Travis County grand jury has indicted an Austin Police officer for murder.

Last April, Officer Christopher Taylor fired the shot that killed Ramos.

The charge “strengthens” the case against Christopher Taylor, according to attorney Scott Hendler. Mike Ramos, he said, was not a threat to anyone on the day he was killed.

“He was confused, he was frightened, he was scared out his mind as it turned out tragically, he had good reason to be, they were not doing to deescalate the situation like they should have been, they were exacerbating the situation,” said Hendler.

Ramos, a Black and Hispanic man, was shot and killed on April 24, 2020, at an apartment complex off South Pleasant Valley near the intersection with East Oltorf in Southeast Austin, after reports about someone with a gun doing drugs.
