According to officials, an 8-year-old boy was discovered alive in a German sewer 8 days after going missing.
According to the Associated Press, the child, identified as Joe, was found under a manhole cover in Oldenburg, approximately 330 yards from his residence, on Saturday. He was discovered after a lengthy search when an observer heard a noise in the vicinity.
According to the news agency, police said the child, who was found naked, was chilled and dehydrated but other than that fine. He was then taken to a local hospital.
CNN reported that he was treated for hypothermia and dehydration at the hospital.
According to CBS News, Joe went missing on the night of June 17.
According to the outlet, authorities suspect Joe managed to crawl into the rainwater sewer through a drain and then became disoriented after a few meters.
According to CNN, officials stated in an original police statement that the boy had a learning difficulty and might misinterpret their search operation as a game.
According to the Associated Press, the boy’s clothes were later discovered in the sewer.
