The remains of a 17-year-old Rochester girl were discovered in South Carolina last week, more than a decade after she went missing on a spring break vacation to Myrtle Beach — and a man has been taken into custody for her murder, police officials announced Monday.

Brittanee Drexel’s body was found Wednesday in Georgetown County, not too far from the widely known vacation spot where she was last seen, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff at a news conference Monday.

Raymond Douglas Moody, a lifelong sexual predator from Georgetown, was arrested and charged with murder, kidnapping, and criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.

According to the sheriff, Moody strangled Drexel on the day she vanished and buried her body the very next day.

The lengthy inquiry led authorities to the location in Georgetown where Drexel’s remains was thought to be buried. Police said her remains were found as a positive match through dental records and DNA tests.

Drexel was last seen on Ocean Boulevard after leaving the Myrtle Beach motel where she was staying.
