Police are looking for two men who allegedly kidnapped a mother and her 1-year-old child from a Target parking lot while the woman was loading grocery items into her vehicle.
The incident happened on Wednesday around 12:00 p.m. at a Target store in Memphis, Tennessee, when officials from the Memphis Police Department were informed that a woman and her 1-year-old baby had just left Target after buying grocery items when they were confronted by 2 men carrying a handgun, according to police.
“The males forced the victim and the child into the suspect’s vehicle,” the Memphis Police Department stated in a social media statement outlining the kidnapping. “The suspects drove to the Regions Bank at 7790 Highway 64 and forced the victim to withdraw $800.00 from the ATM.”
The ATM location they drove to was about a half mile west of the abduction scene. According to authorities, once the perpetrators had the cash they sought, they released the victim and her baby, who were then able to notify authorities quickly.
The Memphis Police Department did not specify where the victims were released or how long the incident had lasted before they were released.
During the subsequent police investigation, however, officers discovered video of the two perpetrators at a Walmart about a mile east of where the kidnapping occurred and ascertained that they had been there before arriving at Target.
According to police, the two male perpetrators remain on the run and are being sought for kidnapping and aggravated assault.
A monetary reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the two suspects, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the abduction or has information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
