North Carolina Mother of 5 Accidently Shot and Killed After Children Find Gun in Her Purse

Authorities said a mom is dead after her kids found a gun somewhere within her purse and accidentally shot her inside their home on Monday.

When authorities arrived at Cornelius Village Apartments on Meridian Street off Catawba Avenue, the police said they found 25-year-old Gabriel Alexis Henderson dead with a small semi-automatic pistol on the bed next to her in the back bedroom of her apartment.

After talking to witnesses, investigators discovered that at the time of the shooting, the only individuals within the apartment were Henderson and her five children.

Detectives said that at the time of the shooting, four of the children were with their mother in the room.

Investigators believe that one of the children found the gun inside the purse of their mother and the gun went off somehow, killing Henderson and wounding her youngest child.

The child was taken to Atrium Main in Charlotte by MEDIC but is expected to be OK.
