A heartless Russian mom is said to have sold her newborn to pay for a $3,600 rhinoplasty.

The 33-year-old lady, whose identity has not been revealed by Russian media, was arrested in late May on accusations of human trafficking, according to the Daily Star.

The mother is believed to have delivered a newborn boy on April 25 at a facility in the southern city of Kaspiysk before selling him 5 days later to a nearby couple hoping to start a family.

According to a statement acquired by Newsflash from Russian officials, the cruel mother met “with a local resident [and] decided to hand away her newborn boy, who was helpless, for a payment of 200,000 rubles ($3,200 USD).”

She allegedly gave the new parents a “waiver for the rights to the child” on the day she gave up the baby. In exchange, she received a $360 USD down payment.

The woman is suspected to have gotten the remainder of the cash less than 4 weeks later, on May 26, however authorities were alerted a short time thereafter.

It’s unknown who called the cops, but she was immediately apprehended, along with the couple who had unlawfully adopted the newborn son.

The new parents allegedly informed detectives that the lady handed them the child and his birth certificate, but that they did not pay for the child directly. They stated that the mother afterwards requested $3,200 USD for the expense of a nose operation for “better breathing,” and they were pleased to comply.

“Currently, a series of investigative actions is being carried out, aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime committed and consolidating evidence of the suspect’s guilt,” the official Russian statement reportedly read.

“She is suspected of committing a crime under paragraph ‘h’ of Part 2 of Art. 127.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (purchase and sale committed in relation to a person who is in a state of helplessness, known to the guilty person),” officials further stated.

Meanwhile, officials have not revealed who is presently caring for the infant boy, who is now 2 months old.
