Authorities said on Sunday that a woman is accused of murdering her two young children with a meat cleaver after her and her husband had a an aurguement.
Yui Inoue, 40, allegedly threatened to stab her husband over a disagreement about funds for a trip to Japan before murdering her children, according to authorities.
Around 7 a.m., Inoue decided to drive to the police precinct and told authorities she had heard voices telling her to murder her children, according to officials. A 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were discovered dead in the apartment, according to police. Their names were not immediately released.
The two bodies were covered in blankets and boxes, with “significant injuries to their bodies, including numerous lacerations, incised wounds, and some amputations, consistent with a violent attack and defensive wounds,” according to Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Steven Carbajal.
On Sunday, it was unknown whether Inoue had retained an attorney who could communicate on her behest. According to the Associated Press, police said the woman spoke mainly Japanese and used a translator during their interview sessions.
