An investigation is still ongoing after authorities in Texas City reported that a mother and her toddler were discovered shot early Saturday at a Texas City apartment complex.

It occurred around 1 a.m. at Tradewinds Apartments, located in the 1900 block of 13th Street. Taylor Kendrick, 23, and her three-year-old daughter Ty’Mya were identified as the victims by relatives.

“I want whoever did this found, and I want them to pay for it,” said Taylor’s mother, Sheronica Wright-Evans.

According to Texas City police, officers arrived and discovered Kendrick outside her apartment with a bullet wound to the thigh.

Kendrick reportedly requested officers check on her daughter, who was still inside the apartment. That is when the child was discovered in her bed, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“She’s an innocent child, she did not deserve this,” Wright-Evans said. “She got a long road ahead of her because of a decision someone made.”

Mother and daughter were taken to UTMB Galveston. The toddler was listed as being in critical condition, while her mother was listed as being stable.

The cause of the shooting is unknown, and police say they are still looking for the suspect.

Taylor’s family has established a GoFundMe page to assist her and her family with medical expenses.

The Mainland Communities Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
