According to authorities and his team, NFL player Brian Robinson was shot during an attempted carjacking in Washington, D.C., but was recovering with non-life threatening injuries on Sunday.

The attack was reported at 12:08 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of H Street Northeast, according to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.

The victim was hospitalized after receiving multiple gunshot wounds. The victim’s identity was not revealed by the department.

The Commanders confirmed the 23-year-old rookie running back was shot on Sunday evening.

According to NBC Washington, Robinson got into a struggle with the perpetrators after they attempted to steal his Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. The purported altercation may have triggered the shooting.

Authorities stated that a white Toyota Camry was recorded on security camera video near the area and that they’d like to talk with anyone who knows something about it.

Robinson, who attended the University of Alabama, was selected by Washington in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

According to a team statement, staff and players were at Robinson’s side on Sunday.

Ron Rivera, the head coach, said he paid a visit to Robinson on Sunday night.

“He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers and support,” he said. “He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all and will be back soon doing what he does best.”
