Kevin Ware, a former NFL tight end, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, who was discovered dead in Texas last year.

Ware was also charged with tampering with evidence, specifically a corpse, by a grand jury.

“Prosecutors presented the evidence to a Harris County grand jury, which determined there was sufficient evidence for criminal charges,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. “We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and apply the law equally to all.”

Ware, who played for Washington and San Francisco between 2003 and 2004, faces up to life in jail.

Pomaski had been missing for seven months after she was last seen in April 2021 at a gathering at her house in Spring, Texas.

Authorities reportedly suspected foul conduct in Pomaski’s disappearance, and in June 2021, prosecutors named Ware as a suspect.

The 29-year-old’s remains were discovered in north Harris County in December 2021.

Ware is now incarcerated in Montgomery County, Texas, on weapons and narcotics charges. According to NBC news, these charges are unrelated.

Ware hasn’t played in the NFL since 2004.
