The league released a video on its official Twitter account in which white letters on a black screen unfurled a variety of statements, the first of which was, “Football is gay.”
The clip, which is 30 seconds in length, added, “Football is lesbian. Football is beautiful. Football is queer. Football is life.”
On Monday, a league spokesman acknowledged to Outsports that the film was a direct response to Las Vegas Raiders pass-rusher Carl Nassib’s announcement last week that he is gay.
As part of the video message, the NFL invited viewers to give to The Trevor Project, an organization founded to help prevent suicides in the LGBTQ+ community.
