Nicole Mokeme remembered as loving person who uplifted community

A nationwide manhunt is being conducted in order to find the individual who, according to authorities, struck and killed Nicole Mokeme, 35, of South Portland.

According to authorities, Mokeme’s death was determined to be a homicide on Monday.

Raymond Lester, a Portland resident wanted in connection with her death, was dating the 35-year-old South Portland woman, according to Maine State Police.

Authorities say that Mokeme was hit and killed at Schoodic Education and Research Center campus in Acadia National Park.

The accident occurred in the park’s northern part, near the Schoodic Education and Research Center complex.

According to NECN, Mokeme was the creative director of the Rise and Shine Youth Retreat in Bowdoin, an organization that provides retreats and activities for Black children and adults, and she had helped arrange the Black Excellence Retreat 2022 at Schoodic Institute, which was taking place at the time she was killed.

With the aid of other law enforcement agencies, the Maine State Police are looking for Raymond Lester, 35, and his 2016 black BMW X3 SUV, which has the Maine license plate 5614WM.

According to officials, the SUV may have front-end or undercarriage damage.
