The man who fatally shot the wife of renowned Music Executive Clarence Avant last year in a botched home invasion in Beverly Hills has been sentenced to a minimum of 150 years in prison after it was disclosed he boasted about the violent act to pals over the phone after his arrest.
Aariel Maynor, who admitted last month to fatally shooting 81-year-old philanthropist Jacqueline Avant during a failed raid on the couple’s $7 million mansion in December, was sentenced to life in prison in Los Angeles County court Friday afternoon, more than 4 months after the killing.
The hearing, which had been scheduled for late last month but was postponed due to Maynor’s refusal to leave his cell, saw a judge sentence Maynor to death for the murder of Avant as well as the attempted murder of a security guard who he shot at during the December 1 break-in.
‘There are no words to describe the nightmare we have endured due to the cruel and vicious acts of the defendant,’ daughter Nicole Avant, who is married to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, said in a statement read Tuesday by prosecutors detailing the repercussions the murder has had on Avant’s relatives over the past 4 months.
Jacqueline was a local philanthropist who once modeled in the Ebony Fashion Fair and was the president of the Neighbors of Watts, a child care support group. She was also a member of UCLA’s International Student Center’s board of directors.
According to IMDb, she also served as chairperson of NOW membership and entertainment chairperson of the NOW benefit auction and dinner dance in 1975.
Clarence, her husband, is recognized as the “Godfather of Black Music,” and was recently enlisted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
