On Sunday, a Ohio man was shot while attempting to achieve entry into a residence.
According to a news release, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the 2900 block of North Kuther Road regarding a man standing at the front door attempting to gain entry to the house.
According to Sheriff James Frye, James Douglas Rayl, 22, of Sidney, was subsequently identified.
A Ring video shows Rayl approaching the house and pounding on the door. According to the release, the homeowner told Rayl to start leaving and that he had a weapon.
Rayl then pounded on the door several times, eventually breaking it ajar and entering the house. According to Frye, the homeowner fired 3 shots. Rayl then stumbled back and collapsed in front of the garage, according to the sheriff’s office.
The caller identified Rayl as an ex-boyfriend, according to 911 audio.
“He broke through the door, and my dad shot at him.” “Was he trying to kill me?”, according to 911 recordings.
Rayl was declared dead at the scene.
The incident has been reported to the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office, and it will be presented to the next county grand jury.
