This morning, a Michigan man was arrested outside the United States Capitol after being discovered with a fake badge, a BB gun, body armor, high capacity magazines, and other ammo.

A U.S. Capitol Police patrol officer approached a man who had decided to park his 2017 Dodge Challenger just next to Peace Circle on the West side of the Capitol shortly before 5:00 a.m.

Jerome Felipe, 53, of Flint, Michigan, was identified as the man.

Felipe, a retired New York police officer, gave the USCP officers a fake badge with the words “Department of INTERPOL” written on it. Felipe also falsely claimed to be a criminal investigator with the agency.

Felipe consented to officers searching his vehicle. A BB gun, two ballistic vests, several high capacity magazines, and other ammo were found in the vehicle by the officers. There were no real guns discovered.

Investigators are still trying to figure out why Felipe was parked just next to the US Capitol.

Felipe is accused of illegally possessing high-capacity magazines and unregistered ammunition.
