A police officer in western New York was suspended after handcuffing an emergency medical worker in a hospital emergency room after she hit his car while removing a patient from an ambulance.

City police confirmed the suspension on Monday, a week after EMT Lekia Smith was handcuffed inside Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

According to security footage acquired by WHEC-TV, the investigator backs Smith, a Black woman, into a corner as she stands alongside a patient on a stretcher. He snatches her arm and binds her hands behind her back before leading her outdoors.

Police stated the incident was being investigated but refused to offer details or even the officer’s identity. While under suspension, the officer is still being paid.
