Arrest Made in The Death and Disappearance of Teen Quawan ‘Bobby’ Charles

According to CBS, a Louisiana woman was charged Tuesday in connection with the death of Quawan “Bobby” Charles, a Black teenager whose body was discovered in a sugar cane field in November. Janet Irvin, 37, faces charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and for failing to report a missing child, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The 15-year-old was reportedly picked up outside his father’s house in Baldwin, Louisiana, on October 30, by two people whom Charles’s family said were Irvin and her teen son. Charles’ parents said they didn’t know the lady or her child at the time, and they never gave consent for him leave with them.

The family raised concerns about how the case was treated by law enforcement, and the case received national attention after the family posted a disturbing photo they said was taken while identifying the body.

The official autopsy report, which was completed on Feb. 5, indicates that the wounds on Charles’ face were caused by animals and/or insects after his death.
