R. Kelly is engaged to be married to one of his alleged victims, Joycelyn Savage, according to a letter to the judge, and her family maintains they had no knowledge.
According to court documents acquired by TMZ, Joycelyn announced her engagement by saying, “I’m Robert Kelly’s fiance”… in her communication with the federal judge just before Kelly was sentenced. The letter she addressed to the judge requesting a lower punishment does not specify when they were engaged.
“I’m not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be,” she writes in the letter.
She continues by saying her interaction with Kelly is “amazing,” and that he is the finest thing that’s ever happened to her. She believes he was constantly concerned with her needs, as well as the needs of “any other women he was with.”
Obviously, she didn’t have much luck persuading the judge, who sentenced Kelly to 30 years in prison.
According to Gerald Griggs, a lawyer for Savage’s parents, her family had no idea she was engaged, and they’ve never even discussed the idea previously.
Griggs thinks it’s strange that Savage didn’t get on the stand, under oath, instead inserting it into the court document. Savage’s family “strongly doubts” the engagement narrative and wants to contact with her to get the whole truth.
They concede it’s not odd that she wouldn’t tell her parents – Griggs claims she hasn’t talked to them since she went to live with Kelly.
