A man in Indiana is facing numerous charges after shooting and killing his wife inside their home.

According to the release, Clark County police responded to a home in the 11000 block of Forrest Hill Circle in Sellersburg on a report that a suspect gunned down his wife and left. Police arrived and discovered Elizabeth “Lizzie” Bennett Lewis killed inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.

Mac Lewis, the suspect, was charged with murder, attempted murder, and criminal recklessness with a firearm.

The investigation has revealed that the victim’s 11-year-old daughter and her 10-year-old friend were both inside the house and near Mac at the time of the murder. Lewis is not the biological father of the 11-year-old, according to Clark County Chief Deputy Scottie Maples.

Elizabeth’s daughter dialed 911 while Lewis fired his gun throughout the house, killing her mother in the process.

Multiple gunshot wounds were discovered throughout the home, the release stated.

Lewis was apprehended by Sellersburg police officers while driving on State Road 60. Lewis was arrested by police without incident during a traffic stop. According to the release, he is scheduled to appear in Clark Circuit 1 Court on Monday.

The victim’s family has requested that all inquiries be directed to Larry O. Wilder, the family representative, at 502-930-4152.
