Woman accused of Cocoa High School bomb threat was misidentified, family says
Officials said a woman was arrested after threatening to bomb her son’s high school unless cafeteria employees gave him more food. According to courts and police records, the threat was made via voice message on February 3 to Cocoa High School on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, WPLG reported.
Anaya Smith, 41, was arrested on charges of making a false bomb threat and disrupting a school on Wednesday.
According to an arrest report, she did not leave a name on the voice message, but the phone number was recorded by the school’s caller ID.
The following morning, teachers and administrators listened to the message and called Cocoa police.
The school was forced to evacuate, but no explosives or weapons were discovered.
Smith’s phone number was discovered in school records, and a school resource officer stated that her child had gotten into an argument with a cafeteria employee on February 3 over food.
On April 7, the state attorney’s office issued an arrest warrant for the woman. On Wednesday, she was taken into custody by authorities.
