Shock G, the leader and co-founder for the popular hip-hop collective Digital Underground, was found dead on Thursday. The group had a series of hits in the early 1990s and introduced its audience to Tupac Shakur. He was 57 years old at the time.

The rapper was found deceased in a hotel room in Tampa, according to his father, Edward Racker.

Shock G was the  person that ushered Tupac into the rap scene.

Shock G was born and bred on the East Coast, but he ultimately relocated to Oakland, where he co-founded Digital Underground with Chopmaster J and Kenneth Water in the late 1980s.
