On Thursday, a New Mexico State Police officer was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop on I-10 near Deming, according to CBS4.

Homeland Security Investigations were assisted by a New Mexico State Police officer based in Deming, New Mexico.

Darian Jarrott, a 28-year-old cop, conducted a traffic stop on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 101 east of Deming, New Mexico, on a white Chevrolet pickup truck.

Officer Jarrott was hit and killed.

Cueva pulled over at the exit and opened fire on officers from the New Mexico State Police.

Officers retaliated with bullets. Cueva managed to elude police, prompting officers to launch a search.

Austin Contreras, a witness, captured video of the gunman in a shootout with law enforcement.

Cueva was given first aid by officers before emergency medical services arrived. Cueva was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries.
