A woman was fatally stabbed in Northeast D.C. on Wednesday, nearly a year after she admitted to throwing her dead 2-month-old son’s body in a garbage bin. Authorities said the man arrested for her murder was the baby’s father.

Just before 3 a.m., LaDonia Boggs, 39, was brutally murdered in the doorway of a residence in the 1500 block of Benning Road NE. According to D.C. police, she had suffered a stab wound.

Authorities have charged Carl Jones, 44, of Northeast D.C., with second-degree murder while armed. Detectives said the crime was “domestic in nature.”

Boggs’ infant son, Kyon Jones, was reported missing in May 2021. The case received a lot of attention. Boggs claimed in an interview with a missing persons advocate a week after his disappearance that she rolled over on the baby while lying in bed.

“He was ‘sleep on my chest and when I woke up, he wasn’t breathing anymore, because he was just that small. He was only 2 months old. He was a premature baby,” she said.

Boggs stated that she was terrified and panicked.

“I came back in the house and got a blanket and his car seat, and wrapped it up and took it outside and just throwed it in the trash,” she explained.

Police and cadaver dogs combed through a landfill in Charles City County, Virginia, but the baby’s body was never discovered.

Boggs was ultimately charged with tampering with evidence and was awaiting trial.

Boggs’ death is being investigated by police, who say they don’t know if it has anything to do with her son’s death.
