A 14-year-old boy who turned himself in to police on Monday in connection with a fatal attack on a 73-year-old man in Philadelphia last month has been charged with murder.

On Monday, Action News was present when Richard Jones surrendered to police with his attorney.

Jones has also been charged with criminal conspiracy. The 10-year-old was freed and has not been charged.

Jones and others were reportedly implicated in the June 24 attack in North Philadelphia.

According to police, four boys and three girls brutally assaulted 73-year-old James Lambert, also known as “Simmie.” Many of the suspects are assumed to be in their early and mid-teen years.

The perpetrators allegedly attacked Lambert multiple times with objects, sending him to the pavement.

The perpetrators can be seen hitting the victim with a traffic cone in surveillance video released by the police on Friday.

Lambert died as a result of head injuries, according to police. According to Homicide Capt. Jason Smith, at least 2 teenagers were involved in the violence. Lambert died as a result of blunt force injuries, according to the medical examiner.

Lambert’s family tells Action News that they are relieved the teenager turned himself in, but they hope the rest of the perpetrators will follow suit.
