Recently, Terrence Howard, who plays Lucious Lion’s role in the series, revealed that he is bringing the network to court over a failed series payment, according to the Blast.
Howard’s company Universal Bridges is suing 20th Century Fox Film Corporation for breach of contract according to court documents obtained by The Blast.
Universal Bridges is Howard’s loan-out corporation that is operated by his current fiancé Mira Howard (the two were first married in 2013 but divorced in 2015. They reconciled and are currently engaged to be married for a second time.)
In the documents, Universal Bridges says that Fox promised to pay Howard for his work on “Empire” through a loan-out company. Howard was paid by the studio until recently.
To this date, the actor continues to act on the show. However, his company blames Fox of refusing to pay him for the last three episodes “even though it was contractually obliged to do so.”
The paycheck issue seems to stem from Howard’s ex-wife, Michelle Ghent, trying to collect $1.3 million owed to her. In the suit, Fox revealed that Ghent had provided them with legal documents requiring them to hand over all Howard’s checks.
In August, a judge told Howard to pay Ghent $1.3 million in back spousal support along with additional money due to his increased earnings.
Howard filed a motion against the divorce judgment and believes that enforcement remains in effect, which means that they will pause the court proceedings until the outcome of his appeal.
Fox’s lawsuit is requesting the court to tell them who is owed the money from the episodes.
