Police say a woman attempting to flee a gunfight to get herself and a child out of harm’s way, ran over a suspect accused of attempting to rob a man in a gas station parking lot.

It occurred in the 3900 block of Fondren just after 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The robbery victim met somebody to swap something, and while he was conversing with that person, the robber tried to rob him at gunpoint, according to Houston police.

The robbery victim was able to obtain a firearm from his vehicle and fire back at the robbery suspect, according to police.

As the gunfight between the two parties continued, a terrified woman attempted to flee the gas station parking lot and ran over the robbery suspect, according to police.

On the scene, the suspect was declared dead.

The victim of the robbery was shot in the shoulder and transported to a local hospital. According to police, he is expected to recover.

The woman is rattled, but it is unlikely that she will be charged, according to the police.

“There was a female that was in her car, I believe she had a child in the car, she was extremely scared and accelerated at a high rate of speed to get out of the parking lot to avoid the shootout and she struck the suspect, and he’s under the car here behind me,” HPD Lt. Larry Crowson explained at the scene.
