Madison McDonald admitted to murdering her two children, 1-year-old Lillian Mae McDonald and 6-year-old Archer Hammond and called 911 from the lobby of the Irving Police Department on Monday night.
McDonald can be seen walking through the department’s lobby around 10 p.m. Monday when three officers approached her and started talking to her, according to video released by the department.
She told 911 operators that she killed her two daughters, 1-year-old Lillian Mae McDonald and 6-year-old Archer Hammond, by sedating them first and then smothering them before tucking them into their beds, according to authorities.
McDonald allegedly told police that her children were “being abused” and that she would do anything to protect her daughters, including “eliminate them.”
“This is obviously a horrific incident and we may not ever know the why, right, because there’s not ever going to be a definition or reason that would ever justify the murder of two children,” said Irving Police Officer Robert Reeves.
Archer McDonald, McDonald’s eldest child, was discovered in the master bedroom. Lillian Mae, her youngest, was in the spare room.
Child Protective Services, along with police, is investigating the case, according to a statement. The agency confirmed that it had previously interacted with the family, but did not elaborate.
McDonald is currently being held without bail in the Irving City jail. McDonald was apprehended in the police station lobby and is charged with two counts of capital murder of a child under the age of ten.
