When a Tennessee woman was leaving her house last Thursday, she noticed what she believed was a parcel on her front porch, but upon closer inspection, she discovered it was a newborn baby.

The woman, a critical care nurse, stated that the newborn, an African American male, was unclothed and not breathing.

“The entire placenta was still connected,” she explained. “I had some gloves in my car and checked his pulse, but he was already gone.”

The woman, who requested anonymity, stated that she did not hear anybody knocking on her door and had no clue why the baby was left outside her residence.

“I was shocked. I was really frozen in place because you just don’t expect to see that on your front door.”

Southaven Police are not releasing anything regarding the investigation, but they are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the mom and newborn.

A few schools are close to the nurse’s house where the newborn was discovered. According to residents, cops have been speaking with teens at schools and in the area in an attempt to identify the mother.

“I hope she’s doing OK. I hope she got some care she needed if she’s having some mental trauma. I hope she can get help for that too,” the woman who discovered the baby stated.

Southaven Police have also checked the area’s home security cameras.

If you have any information that will assist investigators, please contact the Southaven Police Department at (662)-393-8652 or [email protected].
