A woman has been apprehended while transporting millions of dollars in illegal drugs through the state. It all began when she was pulled over by Oklahoma County officials for driving abnormally on I-35.
“Drug traffickers often come through Oklahoma City,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III.
On February 22nd, an Oklahoma County deputy observed the driver, Jamara Hendratta Hennings, 29, swerving. He then signaled for her to pull over.
“Hennings said her friends let her borrow the van to let her drive home because she didn’t have enough money for a plane,” Johnson III explained. “The deputy asked to search the van after hearing the story and everything not lining up.”
The deputy dispatched a drug K-9, which detected a positive hit on the back of the van. The deputy discovered a duffle bag containing $75,000 in fentanyl pills, 12 plastic Tupperware bins, and 8 plastic wrapped bundles containing 23.5 pounds of crystal meth. In addition, 2.5 pounds of pre-cut cocaine. It was all worth more than $3.3 million in total.
“We are seeing a dramatic increase in drug arrests,” said Johnson III. “Finding drugs and not just finding these illicit drugs, but these fentanyl pills which are so dangerous.”
“Just the high volume of fentanyl that we’re seeing going around, at least coming through Oklahoma City. it’s coming at a rate that I don’t think I’ve ever seen,” said Johnson III.
Hennings was handed over to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where they will face federal charges.
