According to a news release, deputies in Maryland arrested a convicted felon on child pornography, animal abuse, and firearms charges on Thursday.
Jason Havelt, 42, was detained after deputies searched a property in Frederick County, Maryland, according to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. When detectives got tips regarding animal mistreatment in November, they launched an investigation.
According to the news release, images on a USB drive given to authorities showed Havelt “performing sexual acts on his dogs.”
Havelt’s electronic gadgets were seized by detectives. More photographs of animal mistreatment were discovered. Deputies also discovered films of child pornography, including acts involving animals.
Investigators also discovered photos of Havelt in his home with a variety of firearms, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns. He is forbidden from owning weapons as a convicted felon, according to the sheriff’s office.
Havelt is facing 16 charges in total:
- Child porn with the intent to promote/distribute
- Possession of child pornography
- Firearm possession with a felony conviction
- Illegal possession of ammunition
- Illegal possession of a regulated firearm
- 2 counts of rifle/shotgun in possession with a felony conviction
- 2 counts of possessing a rifle/shotgun being convicted of a disqualifying crime
- 7 counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal
