In New York City, a man surrendered to police after admitting to fatally shooting a woman he believed was a “witch” who had cursed him.
According to WABC-TV, Giuseppe Canzani went to the Queens home of the victim, Anna Torres, on Wednesday, knocked on the door and fired 3 shots at her as soon as she opened it.
According to the New York Post, the victim was struck twice, including in the head.
The 51-year-old woman died at the scene. She was a psychic who conducted tarot card readings at her home. Canzani, 41, allegedly told investigators that Torres had cast curses to kill him.
“They tried to kill me,” he told WABC. “I am supposed to be dead already.”
The aspect of Canzani’s relationship with the victim was not disclosed, but police do not believe it was intimate, according to the Post.
Torres’ husband, David Aguilar, stated that while his wife may have been unaware of Canzani, he thinks the police interview will reveal that and that “time will tell.”
Canzani drove nearly an hour after the shooting to the 106th Precinct and placed a loaded firearm on the sidewalk before being apprehended by two officers. According to police, he had no prior arrests.
No information was provided about the motive behind the shooting.
