House Passes Coronavirus Bill with $1,400 Payments

The first big legislation of President Joe Biden’s tenure, a $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill, passed the US House early Saturday morning along party lines.

The legislation provides stimulus checks of $1,400 for people earning up to $75,000 and $2,800 for couples earning up to $150,000, plus $1,400 for every dependent.

Along with December’s $600 payouts, the Democrats fulfilled their promise to provide $2,000 to most Americans who were still trying to recover from the coronavirus outbreak and the resulting economic downturn.

These payments would be phased out for individuals earning between $75,000 and $100,000, and for couples earning between $150,000 and $200,000.
