An 8-year-old boy is afraid to return to school in the fall because his gym teacher decided to throw a hockey stick at him and knocked out his front tooth loose.
On March 28, one day after Easton’s eighth birthday, he was in gym class with other students, flinging hockey sticks into a huge stack, when teacher Kim Neubauer picked up the stick Easton had just laid down and threw it back at him.
2 weeks after the incident, the district announced that it placed Kim Neubauer on administrative leave without pay until the end of the school year. The school year ended last week and the district says it terminated her employment on Friday, but according to Easton’s parents, this is insufficient.
“The school district, the principal, the nurse, nobody made a police report,” says Johnson. She’s frustrated no one can be held accountable for this because there is no criminal investigation into it.
After Neubauer was allegedly fired, the district publicly acknowledged her retirement by posting a congratulatory message on Facebook, which was eventually removed.
