Authorities in New York arrested the man who they said attempted to kidnap a little girl who was with her grandmother and brother and sister on Monday afternoon.
The alleged attempted abduction occurred Monday afternoon in the Bronx, when a man wrapped in blankets, Santiago Salcedo, 27, approached the 65-year-old grandmother tried to leave with a 3-year-old girl, according to WPIX.
Nearby people were immediately notified by the grandmother’s screams, and they encountered Salcedo, who then put the child down, according to the source.
When the girl was kidnapped, a worker at a nearby gas station acted quickly.
Salcedo was apprehended by police later that day. He was charged with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, illegal imprisonment, and endangering a child’s welfare, The Post reported.
