Coronado High School defeated Orange Glen High School in overtime over the weekend at Coronado for the regional CIF championship.

Following the buzzer, both teams’ coaching staffs began bickering, and at least two Coronado players/fans threw tortillas at the Orange Glen team, which has numerous Hispanic players.

More than 80% of Orange Glen’s student body is Latino. The majority of Coronado High School’s students are white, according to NBC7.

According to ABC7, The Coronado Police Department, which was asked to help empty the gymnasium after the ballgame, told reporters guy who brought the tortillas to the game has been identified, and an investigation will be conducted.

“The Trustees of the Coronado Unified School District acknowledge these acts to be egregious, demeaning and disrespectful,” the district said in a letter to Orange Glen. The trustees said they condemned “the racism, classism and colorism which fueled the actions of the perpetrators.”
